Police Uniforms

Another key component of the police uniforms design is the duty belt. This contraption holds all of the officer’s equipment necessary for criminal apprehension. For most of the history of police forces, it was just that, a belt. But belts are becoming less and less common these days.

One of the reasons the belt is losing favor among police officers is that it is uncomfortable and has been proven to cause back problems. The police uniforms design attempted to correct this by adding the shoulder strap in the 1970’s. This served to eliminate sciatic problems to one side of the body but left the other side aching.

The most modern innovation in fixing the police uniforms design is the introduction of the duty vest. This vest replaces the belt and shoulder strap completely and solves not only back problems suffered by officers but also creates a better storage distribution for all the tools an officer must carry.
