Riot Gear

Riot gear consists of special body armor, a gas mask, and a riot shield. Where common police officers wear a standard bullet proof vest, riot officers also wear a helmet, a neck protector, and knee-pads. This extra gear is necessary to protect against projectiles and potential physical combat.

The gas mask is a protection in place to protect the officer not from the crowd, but from the tear gas their side may use to disperse the riot. In addition to protecting the officer from the gasses it also serves as a second line defense against blows or thrown objects from the crowd. It truly a useful bit of riot gear.

The last part of riot gear is the riot shield. This shield is made out of Plexiglas for strength and for visibility. They typically are large enough to cover a man from head to knees and are lightweight for maneuverability.
